What you get when I build your iOS app
You get a native iPhone and iPad app written in Swift, mostly SwiftUI with UIKit where it is the better tool, plus everything around it that makes an app shippable and maintainable:
- A product scope you can defend. We decide together what goes into the first version and, just as important, what waits.
- An architecture built to change. Modular Swift packages, clear separation between UI, business logic and networking, and tests on the parts that carry risk.
- Regular TestFlight builds. You install real builds on your own devices throughout the project, not just at the end.
- App Store release handled. Signing, App Store Connect setup, screenshots and metadata, submission and review.
- Code a future team can read. Every line that ships is read and reviewed by me, including anything an AI tool helped draft.
Typical projects I take on
A focused first version
Many businesses do not need a 40-screen app on day one. They need one job done well: booking, ordering, a member area, a field tool for staff. I help you cut the idea down to the version that proves its value, then build it so it can grow without a rewrite.
A full product with the hard parts
Some apps live or die on platform features that are easy to get wrong: subscriptions, widgets, iCloud sync, background uploads, location, Screen Time. I have shipped these in my own products, so they are not an experiment on your budget. See StoreKit 2 subscriptions for one example.
An iPhone app that also runs well on iPad
With SwiftUI, an iPhone app can share most of its code with an iPad version while still giving iPad users sidebars, multi-column layouts and keyboard support. More on that in SwiftUI multiplatform.
How a project starts
- You email me at contact@hobbysoft.pro with what you want to build, who it is for, and any deadline that matters.
- Discovery. A short call or email exchange about goals, users, existing systems and risks. I will tell you honestly if I think an app is not the right answer.
- Scope and estimate. I write down what the first version includes and what it does not, with an estimate. Price and timeline depend on scope, so they are agreed up front, not discovered halfway through.
- Architecture, then build. Foundations first, then features, with TestFlight builds so you can see progress for yourself.
- Release and after. App Store submission, crash monitoring, and a plan for updates.
Why one accountable developer lowers your risk
The usual risk with outsourced app work is distance: an account manager relays your feedback to a project manager, who relays it to a developer you never meet. Details get lost, and nobody owns the whole result.
With HobbySoft, the person you talk to designs, writes, reviews and ships the code. I take on a small number of projects at a time, so yours is not competing with a dozen others. And because I am a senior engineer with almost 15 years on Apple platforms, the architecture decisions that are expensive to reverse are made by someone who has seen them go wrong before.
Proof you can check yourself
I do not publish client names here, but my own apps are public and you can install them today:
| App | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Fokus Zone | Screen Time framework, geofencing, scheduling, a free tier with a Premium subscription, all data kept on device |
| My Disc Golf | iPhone and iPad, a large disc database, GPS distance measurement, 18 languages, in-app purchases, live and maintained since 2021 |
Beyond my own products, I have shipped commercial apps in telecom, logistics, social networks, health and fitness, and CRM, and sustained weekly releases for years as a lead iOS developer.
What happens after launch
Launch is the start of the app’s life, not the end of the project. Apple ships a new iOS every year, users find edge cases, and your business will want new features. I can stay on for release and maintenance, or hand over a clean, documented codebase to your own team. Both are fine; we decide what fits you.
Next step
If you are a small or medium business thinking about an app, or you already have a spec, send a few lines to contact@hobbysoft.pro. Tell me what the app should do, who will use it, and when you need it. I will reply with questions or a suggestion for a short call.
